Can You Pause WorkMusic With a Keyboard or Headset?

The playback controls WorkMusic supports on a mood page, and why headset media buttons vary by browser.

On a WorkMusic mood page, Space toggles play and pause when you are not typing in a field. WorkMusic also registers browser media-session play and pause actions, which can let a compatible browser relay a headset button or system media control. Neither control changes your mood.

Space works on the mood page

Open a mood and press its large play button if audio has not started. Press Space to pause; press it again to resume. The page ignores Space while your cursor is in an input, text area, or editable element, so typing does not unexpectedly change playback. The shortcut belongs to the mood player, not every WorkMusic page.

If Space does nothing, check that the mood page has focus and use its on-screen play button. If the button indicates playback but you hear nothing, the no-sound checklist separates player state from tab and output-device problems.

Headset buttons depend on browser support

WorkMusic supplies the current mood's title and artwork to the browser's Media Session API and registers play and pause handlers. Your browser and operating system determine whether a headset button reaches those handlers. MDN's Media Session API reference describes this browser-mediated control; the website is not directly connected to a headset.

The mood page does not register next-track or previous-track media actions. Do not assume a headset skip button changes moods or skips tracks. Choose a different scene with the mood carousel instead. Even the headset play/pause button should be treated as a convenience, with the visible button as a fallback.

Use the mini player on other site pages

WorkMusic keeps audio state in a shared player while you navigate within the site. On another WorkMusic page, the bottom mini player provides play/pause and mute buttons and a link back to the current mood. Closing the tab or sleeping the laptop is different; our background-tab and laptop-sleep guide covers those limits.

Try the player with your own keyboard or headset. Working playback controls make listening easier, but they do not measure whether the music improved your focus.
